Sun 18 Oct 2009  Cup
Prudhoe YC Yellows 3
Hexham Juniors 2

What a match. What a result. What effort.

Yellows went into today's Div Cup game as underdogs against 2nd Division Hexham Juniors, who have scored nine goals in each of their last two games.

Prudhoe kicked off facing into strong sunlight with the sun low in the sky, so adopted a defensive formation with the hope of a break away goal with Freddie playing up front on his own. Hexham got on the score sheet after 8 Min's with a well taken goal by Ben Rodgers and the Yellows defence were under constant pressure but coping pretty well. With 20 Min's gone Hexham scored again through Jack Charlton ( overage surely?) and Prudhoe struggled to get the ball out of their own half right up till half time.

The half time team chat was quite upbeat and the formation was changed from defensive into attack, playing 3 at the back and 3 up front. Yellows got immediate reward for the change in tactics with Freddie latching onto a pass from Chaz, and lobbing the keeper from distance 2 mins into the half. The goal completely changed the game with prudhoe suddenly having a lot more believe in themselves and playing like men possessed. Scott came on for Andrew on 45 min's and set up Freddie's 2nd goal with his first touch of the ball....scores level...game on. Hexham lost a lot of confidence and shape at this stage and the Yellows fought for every ball as they gained believe in getting a result. The winning goal came in the 49th min when Sam Calkin hit a cracking shot passed the keeper from range. The last 20 min's was a case of keeping the tempo up with tackling and closing down as Hexham attacked hard in an effort to get back in the tie.

Fantastic result for Yellows today and everyone played their part...Arron was massive in goal....back four worked very hard and got bodies, as well as feet, in the way of the strikers...midfield worked their socks off both defensively and in supporting attack....strikers didn't see the goal that often but put the ball in the right place when they did.....Man Of The match goes to the Team.

BRING ON THE REDS!!!!!!
