Esh Winning 0-0 Prudhoe YC Prudhoe battled to earn a hard fought point against Esh Winning at The WindowsPlusRoofs Arena.

Despite a multitude of promising chances for both sides, there was nothing to separate the teams as the referee blew for a goalless draw in the 93rd minute.

The YC came into the game looking to push on from recent momentum, following an emphatic 7-0 victory away at Washington in midweek.

As for Esh, the home team hoped to bounce back from a winless streak of four league games. That said, the side remained in the play off places with two games in hand on nearby chasing Ryton and Thornaby.

The first chance of the game fell to Esh Winning in the sixth minute. A teasing cross in from full back Ben Pyle caused a scramble in the box, calling Prudhoe’s Liam Dalton into action with a last ditch block.

Five minutes later, the home side’s Joe Bates got the better of the YC defence and charged towards goal. Luckily for Prudhoe, keeper Sam Wilson came to the rescue with a superb reflex stop, with Reece Marsden firing wayward on the follow up for the Stags.

In the 17th minute, Esh Winning suffered a scare when a lapse of concentration from keeper Harry Alderson unleashed Matt Law in on goal, but Prudhoe’s forward couldn’t capitalise from the tight angle.

At 38 minutes, another opening fell to the YC. Collins Unuareokpa did brilliantly well to beat his man and release Freddie Marr, who then flashed across the box to Law, with the number seven firing just wide.

In the second half, the YC came out the blocks fast and almost took the lead in the 49th minute. Law couldn’t convert from close range, striking just over the bar after latching onto Marr’s inviting cross.

With a quarter of an hour to go, Prudhoe nearly got their goal in spectacular fashion. Fin Baty’s freekick looked destined for the top left corner, before Alderson made a fine save to tip the effort onto the crossbar.

In the 83rd minute, an opportunity landed Esh’s way as Cobi Jones rattled the crossbar from outside the box, with Tom Merryweather’s volley on the follow up fizzing narrowly wide.

A minute before the end of normal time, a vital stop from the YC’s Wilson thwarted another attempt from Jones on goal, keeping the game level.

Moments later, Prudhoe’s Mavis Adaowo's cutback on the counter attack fell to Brad Lowes inside the Stags’ box, but the midfielder fired just past the right post.

After an eventful 0-0 at The WindowsPlusRoofs Arena, the YC are back at Essity Park next Saturday, welcoming FC Hartlepool.
