MATCH REPORT: FC Hartlepool 3-1 Prudhoe YC

Charlie Walker12 Oct - 15:32

Prudhoe’s winning streak in Ebac Northern League Division Two came to an end at the hands of a strong FC Hartlepool side.

Reece Bickerton opened the scoring for the Seniors midway through the first half, but FC shortly responded with a Fin Smith equaliser.

Soon after, Mikey Mcgee got Hartlepool’s second to give the hosts the lead going into the break.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Mcgee secured his brace, putting the match to bed.

After a brilliant victory against Yarm & Eaglescliffe in their last outing, making it three consecutive league wins, Prudhoe hoped to carry on this momentum against their Hartlepool opponents.

The Match

YC captain Jay Plunkett produced a super clearance on nine minutes, stopping a Hartlepool strike arrowing towards the bottom right corner.

Following an even opening to the game, the Seniors took the lead in the 22nd minute.

Prudhoe were very questionably given an indirect free kick from a supposed FC back pass.

However, the YC seized this opportunity, Wilson passed to Bickerton, who smashed home into the top left corner, with Harry Carr still planted in the centre of his goal.

That said, Prudhoe’s lead was short-lived as Hartlepool found an equaliser on 26 minutes.

Mcgee capped off a smart piece of play with a teasing ball into the box, which was headed home by Smith at the back post.

FC’s turnaround was complete just past the half-hour mark as Mcgee placed the hosts into the lead.

Aidan Chainey won the ball deep in Prudhoe’s half and released Mcgee, who coolly slotted past Sam Wilson.

The Hartlepool side came out the stronger in the second period, threatening with numerous chances in the opening 20 minutes.

Wilson was at the YC’s rescue with two crucial saves one-on-one, along with Billy Foster, who vitally cleared away a dangerous Hartlepool low cross into the Seniors’ six-yard box.

After hitting the crossbar a minute before, FC Hartlepool secured the three points on 82 minutes.

Mcgee grabbed FC’s third and his second of the game, latching onto Jacob Lamb’s threaded pass and clinically firing into the bottom right corner.

Prudhoe had a late chance at a consolation in injury time. From the edge of the box, Charlie Shane-Stone's low strike nearly found the bottom left corner before being parried away by Carr.

The Seniors are back in action on 24th October, facing Sunderland West End away from home.
