Following a lively but goalless first half, Thomas Wilson put the visitors in the ascendancy in the 75th minute.
Jarrow responded just a few minutes later courtesy of Kieren Beattie, before Connor Lane found the winner for the Seniors shortly after - his first goal in YC colours.
In injury time, Jarrow’s Aidan Maher received a second yellow card, with tensions boiling over in the latter stages.
Coming off the back of three points and a clean sheet against Esh Winning, Prudhoe looked to carry this momentum into yesterday’s fixture and make it three wins in five in the league.
The Match
The opening exchanges were end to end, with both sides chasing an early opener.
The Seniors had the first chance on eight minutes. Brad Lowes won his tussle with the last Jarrow defender back and got a shot off, forcing a save from ‘keeper Jak Wells.
Two minutes later, the home side responded as Jack Armstrong’s effort from close range fizzed into the side netting.
The YC then got back on the front foot and called Wells into action once again. Wilson looked dangerous down the left-hand side, eventually striking with Wells producing a smart stop.
After an evenly poised opening quarter of an hour, Jarrow grew into the game with a threatening 10-minute spell.
The Blues hit the post from a low effort inside the box, and minutes later Seniors’ defender Jay Plunkett superbly cleared a teasing header back across the YC box.
In the 20th minute, the home side threatened once more. This time, Sam Wilson produced a great save to parry away a powerful Jarrow header from Luke Hudson’s corner.
Prudhoe regained some control midway through the first half and nearly took the lead.
The Seniors worked the ball round well inside the Jarrow half, with full back Riley Boertien cutting inside to find James Simpson at the edge of the box. The number eight’s effort looked destined for the top right corner but was saved brilliantly by Wells.
In the opening exchanges of the second period, YC ‘keeper Wilson came up with the goods with a spectacular save, stopping Lutfur Karim’s golden opportunity from inside the Seniors’ six-yard box.
10 minutes into the half, there was a massive penalty shout for Prudhoe, as Marr looked to be bundled down in the YC box. However, the referee waved away calls.
With just under 20 minutes of normal time left, the visitors had a huge opportunity to grab the opener. Lowes found Elijah Berman free in the box, but the winger couldn’t find the target with his effort.
That said, the YC kept pushing and got their reward in the 75th minute. Billy Foster whipped in a low cross from the right flank, finding Lowes who audaciously let the ball run through to Wilson, who placed home into the bottom left corner.
Prudhoe’s delight was short lived as Jarrow produced an almost immediate response. After Beattie saw his initial attempt saved, the number eight fired home with conviction on the rebound.
On 80 minutes, the game was almost flipped entirely – Plunkett again at Prudhoe’s rescue to block the Blues’ strike from inside the YC box.
However, the Seniors assumed control of the match, regaining the lead in the 82nd minute.
Wilson was at the heart of things, beating two Jarrow men inside the box with a great piece of individual skill, and found Connor Lane unmarked. From there, the defender finished in style, firing into the roof of the net.
In the 90th minute, Jarrow had the ball in the net following a dangerous set piece, but the referee blew for a foul on ‘keeper Wilson.
As hope for an equaliser dwindled for the home side, tensions began to boil over as a melee broke out on the pitch, stopping play for nearly five minutes. Jarrow’s Armstrong fouled and looked to have hit Foster, with the Blues’ Maher receiving a second yellow in the aftermath that followed.
Despite the tense climax to the game, Prudhoe battled tremendously and held out for the three points.
The YC will look to make it three wins on the bounce in midweek, as they welcome Boldon CA to Essity Park.
