Charlie Loveday’s goal in the first half was all that separated the sides, stretching Prudhoe’s losing streak to five matches.
Following a loss to Grangetown BC last Saturday, the Seniors came into last night’s fixture in need of a positive performance and reaction.
It was a welcome return to the Prudhoe lineup for Reece Bickerton, with the midfielder making his first appearance since the beginning of August after picking up a knee injury against Darlington Town.
The Match
An evenly matched opening, with no real attempts on goal, was eventually sprung into life on 35 minutes. The away side’s Stephen Siyanbola threaded through Loveday on the left, who slotted home from inside the box.
Park View went into the break in the lead, taking the only chance of the first period.
Five minutes into the second half, Prudhoe had an effort of their own. From a drop ball, Thomas Wilson got a shot off searching for the bottom right corner, but James Hughes got down well with a solid stop.
The YC enjoyed periods of possession as the half progressed, however struggled to unlock the visitors’ defence and produce threatening chances.
Tensions began to rise with the game creeping towards the end of normal time, seeing Seniors’ goalkeeper Sam Wilson questionably sin-binned for dissent.
As a result, Jay Plunkett stepped up to take the ‘keeper gloves and was between the sticks for the majority of the closing stages.
Prudhoe had one last attempt to find an equaliser, with a corner deep into stoppage time.
Unfortunately for all in YC colours, the Seniors could not capitalise on Fin Baty’s delivery to claim a deserved point.
Next up for Prudhoe is a home match against newly promoted Durham United on Saturday.
