MATCH REPORT: Prudhoe YC 1-4 Ryton & Crawcrook Albion

Charlie Walker10 Aug - 13:29

Prudhoe fall to a disappointing defeat in the Tyne Valley derby at Essity Park.

The Seniors snatched the lead via Thomas Wilson with ten minutes on the clock, his first official goal for Prudhoe. However, RACA responded with a Jack Salkeld goal halfway through the first period.

In the opening 15 minutes of the second half, a header from the visitors’ Joe Groves-Forbes and a Brad Rogers own goal took the match away from the home side.

Groves-Forbes then saw red for a dangerous tackle on the YC’s Fin Baty at the hour mark, before Louis Anderson added a fourth for Ryton with ten minutes remaining of normal time.

After a strong performance against Darlington Town in their last outing, the YC hoped to carry on this momentum against local rivals Ryton.

That said, the Seniors came into the match without central defender Liam Dalton and central midfielder Reece Bickerton - both picking up injuries in midweek.

The Match

It was a lightning quick start to the derby, with Albion sustaining pressure in the YC’s half early on and the Seniors responding with counter attacks of their own.

In the 6th minute, Prudhoe opened the scoring at Essity Park. After RACA’s Kieran Russel struck the crossbar with his header, the YC went up the other end with pace, earning a corner.

From there, Fin Baty’s promising delivery was met by Wilson, who headed home to give a dream start to the home side.

With Prudhoe now in the ascendancy, Ryton piled on the pressure in search for an equaliser.

The away side got their reward on twenty minutes. Jack Salkeld clinically headed home from a Declan Bisset corner to make it all square in the Tyne Valley derby.

At the half hour mark, the YC had a chance to regain the lead. Another dangerous ball whipped in by Baty landed in the path of Billy Foster, who couldn’t direct his header goalward.

In the 43rd minute, Seniors' 'keeper Wilson was brought into action with a superb stop. Following a miscued clearance, Groves-Forbes latched onto the ball and curled a strike towards the right corner, with Wilson doing brilliantly to tip the effort past the post.

Just before half time, Ryton pressed again and looked to have grabbed a second after a powerful header hit the back of the YC net. However, the referee immediately ruled the goal out for a foul on Wilson.

The away side came out stronger in the second period, and quickly assumed control of the match.

In the 55th minute, Groves-Forbes found himself free in the YC box and put the visitors in front with a strong header into the bottom right corner.

The Seniors showed promise of grabbing an equaliser but, just two minutes after Groves-Forbes goal, Albion got a third.

After an initial shout for a Prudhoe freekick, Salkeld’s initial strike rebounded off Rogers and into the YC net to give Ryton a two-goal advantage.

Following a frantic start to the half, Ryton goalscorer Groves-Forbes saw red on 60 minutes. A dangerous challenge on Baty in the left corner of Prudhoe’s half led to a second yellow card for the number 11.

Despite the visitors being a man down, the Seniors struggled to test RACA’s defence and gain a foothold back in the game.

In the 80th minute, Albion added a fourth to put the match to bed. A composed finish from Anderson, who slotted home into the bottom right corner from close range.

After an underwhelming display in the derby, Prudhoe will hope to bounce back in their third away outing of the season, with several important members of the YC squad scheduled to return.

The Seniors make the trip to Moor Park on Tuesday night, facing Chester-le-Street Town.
