MATCH REPORT: Tow Law Town 0-3 Prudhoe YC

Charlie Walker28 Sep - 15:13

Prudhoe produced a convincing victory against Tow Law at Ironworks Road to make it back-to-back wins in the Ebac Northern League Division Two.

Elijah Berman gave the Seniors the lead in the first half, and shortly after the hosts were reduced to ten men – Ellis Wymer seeing red for his late challenge on Michael Wright.

Just before the hour mark, Wright made it two goals to the good for the visitors, with Brad Rogers converting from the spot to grab Prudhoe’s third ten minutes later.

In the final minute of stoppage time, Tow Law’s Lewis Shorrock was sent off for his reaction to Kieran Lane’s tackle.

Coming into the match, the Seniors hoped to bounce back from a Northumberland Senior Cup exit at the hands of Alnwick Town in midweek, and make it two wins in two in the league.

The Match

The YC struggled to settle into the opening affairs and nearly went behind on seven minutes. Sam Wilson produced a crucial save from point-blank range to stop the hosts’ forward firing into an empty net.

However, as the half progressed, Prudhoe grew into the game with a series of chances on goal.

The first of these came in the 20th minute. James Simpson latched onto the ball inside the Tow Law box but couldn’t direct his shot away from Leo Strange. A minute later, Strange got down well to save Connor Lane’s header from close range.

On 27 minutes, Prudhoe capitalised on their pressure and took the lead. An attempted interception of Wright’s forward pass directed the ball into the path of Berman inside the box, who poked home past the ‘keeper to place the Seniors in front.

Just a few minutes later, matters got worse for the Lawyers as Wymer received a straight red card, following a reckless challenge on Wright at the edge of the home side’s box.

Prudhoe almost doubled their lead from the resulting free kick, with Strange saving brilliantly to stop Bickerton’s powerful strike arrowing towards the right corner.

Early in the second period, the YC piled on pressure. Bickerton released Thomas Wilson one-one-one, but the forward could not keep his final effort down to double the Seniors’ advantage.

Shortly after, Wilson was at the heart of things again, rattling the crossbar with his header after meeting Fin Baty’s pinpoint delivery.

In the 58th minute, Prudhoe gained some breathing space in the match courtesy of Wright. A curling through ball from Bickerton found the forward, who noticed Strange off his line and audaciously lobbed the 'keeper from outside the box.

At the hour mark, the away side almost made it three in spectacular fashion. Riley Boertien’s effort looking certain to find the top left corner, until Strange came to the rescue for the home side, producing a super stop.

Two minutes later, Wilson caused problems for the Lawyers’ backline and looked to be pulled back inside the box. However, the referee waved away calls for a penalty.

In the 68th minute, the YC put the game to bed. Rogers coolly converted from the spot, placing into the bottom left corner.

On 81 minutes, Wilson was on hand to protect the Seniors’ clean sheet, keeping out a promising Tow Law free kick with a spectacular save.

Moments later, Prudhoe embarked on a counterattack with Wright at the forefront, but the forward dragged his final effort narrowly wide.

In the closing stages of the match, tensions boiled over as the hosts’ Shorrock retaliated aggressively to Lane’s tackle, seeing the number six sent off and Tow Law reduce to nine men.

After a crucial three points for the Seniors on the road, attention now turns to next Saturday’s league fixture. Prudhoe welcome Yarm & Eaglescliffe to Essity Park.
