MATCH REPORT: Yarm & Eaglescliffe 1-3 Prudhoe YC

Charlie Walker20 Nov 2025 - 17:10

A display of grit and desire saw Prudhoe YC overcome Yarm & Eaglescliffe to advance to the second round of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup.

A converted penalty from Brad Rogers was followed by a sensational strike from Steven Anderson, putting the Seniors two goals to the good going into half time.

Yarm halved the deficit shortly after the break courtesy of Foster Garton, but a fantastic Freddie Marr effort from distance sealed the victory for the YC.

The visitors came into the cup tie on the back of four straight defeats, however, gathered momentum from a spirited performance against high-flying Seaham Red Star last time out.

The Match

An opener nearly fell to Prudhoe in spectacular fashion three minutes in. Fin Baty’s deep corner almost curled into the top-left corner, with Ethan Lansdell managing to tip the ball onto the post.

On 10 minutes, Yarm’s Joshua Larkin released Tom Atkinson one-on-one with Sam Wilson, but the striker fired narrowly wide of the bottom-left corner.

Seven minutes later, the home side threatened again; Sam Conway’s powerful effort from the edge of the box slicing just wide.

Midway into the half, the referee pointed to the penalty spot for a Yarm handball. From there, the YC’s Rogers coolly converted, slotting centrally past the diving Y&E goalkeeper.

It did not take long for Prudhoe to double their lead as Anderson brilliantly found the back of the net just before the half-hour mark.

After a great clearance from Connor Lane, Anderson swivelled his man, before unleashing a thumping strike into the top-left corner from the edge of the box – Lansdell still planted in the centre of his goal.

Firmly in the ascendancy, Prudhoe enjoyed more possession as the half progressed and could have scored a third on 38 minutes.

Thomas Wilson played the ball into Christ Zoma, whose low shot from range fizzed inches outside the left post.

That said, it was a dream start to the second period for the hosts, getting a goal back early on. In the 47th minute, Garton’s cross-shot down the right side looped over Wilson and into the top-left corner.

The YC maintained composure, though, regaining the two-goal advantage not long after.

An audacious piece of skill from Zoma began the move, allowing the midfielder to beat his man and drive into the Yarm half.

Then, Zoma found Marr, who let off a super strike from distance which arrowed home into the bottom-left corner, with the clock on 54 minutes.

Later in the second period, Y&E almost pulled one back – Garton could only direct his effort onto the post after latching onto Harry Stewart-Titchiner's cross.

Despite the home side’s attempts to find a foothold back into the tie, the Seniors’ remained resilient throughout, battling tremendously to secure entry into the next round of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup.

Following an exceptional performance against Yarm, Prudhoe return to league action at the weekend. The YC welcome Darlington Town to Essity Park on Saturday at 2pm.
